This still rages with intensity and passion like the finest Husker Du, Moving Targets, Manifesto Jukebox or Leatherface records. The EP never lets up the pace and has hooks at every turn. Absolutely magical.

Tozcos started in 2013 in Orange County, California and this is their second LP. “Infernal” was based around perception. Perception of ourselves and the world around us. The idea that hell is not so much a place of demons and burning flames but more so a reflection of our shame and insecurities. How a lot of our torment is connected to the perception we have of ourselves. Justified or not. A lot of these feelings come from our background of families being Mexican immigrants in the US. Musically, our influences are simple for the most part. We really love punk from the area that we are from, like Adolescents and TSOL, and we carry that stuff in our blood no matter what band we are in. This is mixed in with our love of Spanish-speaking punk, and other international hardcore punk such as Eskorbuto, GBH, Toreros After Olé, Svart Framtid and Qloaqa Letal. We tend to funnel everything we do through our own creative ideas to end up with something that to us, has personality and can stand out but still feel familiar in the world of punk and hardcore. Somos Tozcos. Esto es Infernal.

At some point it becomes clear to all of us that trying to navigate life on The Darkest Timeline is pretty heavy going. Politics, economics, human rights? all that grown-up stuff you have to worry about as an adult. Turns out they’ve all been surrendered to ideological grifting and cynical culture wars, which should be enough to make you pretty fkn furious. And you know what? We’re gonna need a soundtrack to this that sounds equally pissed off; something loud, fast and ‘orrible that gives you the impetus to finally drive that bulldozer through the cop shop. In case you hadn’t guessed where this was going, please welcome the grand, timely and thoroughly welcome return of Chain Whip. Straight out of the gate, their second full-length ‘Call Of The Knife’ is absolutely raging. The opening title track might have you squinting at the turntable for a couple of seconds to check that someone hasn’t reanimated the young Circle Jerks, but as soon as frontman Josh Nickel’s voice kicks in, hardcore cognoscenti will be under no illusions that they could possibly be listening to anyone else. His voice is a righteous, gravelly roar that cuts straight through the noise with the very loose subtext ‘I’m having a bad day and it’s imperative that you know about it’. There’s a vitality to it that helps make these Vancouver boys one of the best bands in punk today, and it helps that he’s backed up by a rattling, rolling collective who remind us all that good old-fashioned hardcore (like the ’80s used to make) remains one of the best ideas anyone’s ever had. Suck on that idea for a moment, poindexter! You know what you’re getting with song titles like ‘Class Decay’ and ‘Hatewave’, but there’s something about the band’s garage-slanted take on the genre that makes ’em a cut above. Panache? Chutzpah? Just the simple matter of really fkn good songs? Impossible to say, so let’s just settle by agreeing that this album does it all: you can skate to it, you can slam to it, you can paint your bedroom black to it. You can even listen to it while kicking over the statues and kickstarting that violent and bloody revolution we’ve been promised. Look, this is serious stuff that also happens to be oodles of fun. ‘Something’s gotta give,’ they sing, and maybe it’s your resistance. On this sort of delicious form, no one can touch Chain Whip right now. Form a cult and get obsessed immediately.

It’s with a great sense of pride that we announce the arrival of new material from Italy’s GOLPE. Serving as the highly anticipated follow up to 2021’s La Colpa È Solo Tua on the Sorry State label, Tadzio Pederzolli (the mastermind behind this one man band) has once again gifted us with an ace hardcore punk recording, upping the fervor and delivery in a way that most couldn’t imagine after the already furious debut LP which he also recorded on his own during the pandemic. The Assuefazione Quotidiana 7″ EP features five absolute pounders of tracks, giving us more of the D-Beat based hardcore punk listeners came to love from the initial release with nods to Italian classics as the foundation of it all, topped off with politically and socially charged lyrics challenging modern norms and injustices. Truly a breath of fresh air sonically and philosophically.
Each record comes with a stunning fold out poster, two inserts with the lyrics in Italian and one with an English translation, all topped off with a striking and straight-forward layout featuring the art and design from Tadzio’s mind, executed with the help of co-conspirators.

The latest of the Northern Wind of Brutal Hell Mangel, this session was released earlier this year on the 7″ format by Sweden’s Not Enough Records but we are excited to give you all the 12″ version of the absolutely obliterating S.C.U.M. EP! Recorded at the now legendary Studio Mangel in Frösön, Sweden with the mix and mastering being handled at LM Studio in Osaka, Japan by Ippei Suda and featuring additional vocals by Jacky and noise design by Statuszero recorded in Japan, this one sided slab packs 6 ear ringing blasts on the A-Side and features an absolutely stunning etched B-Side by Oik Wasfuk. Jalang (formerly Lái) play fast-paced and danceable D-beat punk, propelling the band’s ferocious vocals into the face of the listener. Vocalist Alda’s lyrics are delivered in Bahasa Indonesia and English, engaging with both her own and collective narratives that explore politics, religion, feminism and queer rights in South East Asia, and the diaspora in so-called Australia. Timmy (Extinct Exist, Pisschrist, Schifosi) on guitar and Tessa (Ubik, Masses) on bass were joined by Kyle (Sheer Mag) on drums in 2021.
‘Jalang’ in Bahasa Indonesia is one of those ‘odd’ words: when describing the masculine it means wild, feral, undomesticated; while for feminine figures it translates as promiscuous, slutty or evil — something the band aims to reclaim as a mark of feminine pride. Jalang invokes the band members’ diasporic and queer narratives through hardcore punk, mixing ideas and personal experiences that often inter-connect but also continue to conflict with the world around us.
Recorded by Jason Fuller (Goatsound) at Tender Trap Studios in Melbourne, Santau is 11 tracks of incandescent punk energy from this supergroup of Melbourne underground music, tackling real world issues of politics, power and protest. Next-level musical performances, inspirational song writing and the relentless fury of Alda’s vocals combine to produce one of the most intelligent, crucial and viscerally exciting Australian punk releases in years.

When Iron Lung Records hosted a weekend of shows to celebrate our 10 years of being a label we secretly recorded a bunch of the sets hoping to catch some magic. We knew LT would be a highlight (they always are) but we had no idea they would kill it this hard. Pure green lighting, swirling sirens and strobes set the room into a tense, disorienting spin. With the click of the stick a blanket of pure noise and pummeling beat came at us like a canon blast pushing the whole experience into a perfect frenzy. Seriously, there is not a single discernible mistake during the entire 25 minutes except one tiny moment where we could tell the guitar was out of tune – yeah we listened to it THAT closely, because their music deserves that kind of attention. 1000 copies on 150gr vinyl housed in a 24pt jacket with a custom die cut Halloween decoration and lyric insert included. Recorded live at The Vera Project in Seattle WA. Mixed and mastered (very hot) by Will Killingsworth. Artwork by Lebenden Toten with layout assistance by A.K. Wilson.

Finnish hardcore has a long and storied history, from the legendary early days to the flourishing scene that it is today. Here is MARKETING throwing in their two cents on their debut album CALL TO ACTION. Formed in Helsinki on May Day 2018 by members of HERO DISHONEST, THE SPLITS and ARMLESS CHILDREN, MARKETING takes something of the old and something of the new, and turns it into an explosive mixture that sounds both familiar and unique.

While no one is certainly re-inventing the wheel here, the band still seem to be able to pull a surprise or two from their sleeve when needed. Fast, angry and political, MARKETING provides a perfect soundtrack for these dark times.
